School

The Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority believes one of the most effective ways of introducing lifelong recycling habits is to begin environmental education at an early age. With this goal in mind, the Authority has developed a school recycling educational program that is led by the Authority’s school recycling coordinator. Our school recycling coordinator aids schools in designing and implementing a new recycling initiative or helps to make current recycling programs even better. In addition, our program provides educational tools, resources and promotional material, technical information and recommendations, program training, recycling and waste analysis/evaluations.

Another component of the Authority’s program is the concept and emphasis on school “Green Teams”. Green teams are comprised of teachers and students, these teams are responsible for their school’s recycling initiative. Working together they help deliver the message that everyone can make a difference in this world by incorporating sound environmental practices into their everyday lives. We truly believe it’s all about working together to take environmental conservation and recycling to new levels.
