Purchase Compost
Local residents like the idea of closing the recycling loop by purchasing compost made from their yard waste. The convenience of bagged compost is a real plus for many people. Here you can find information on how to purchase our compost.
The Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority allows residents to drop off yard and green waste at the EcoDrop Utica & EcoDrop Rome during normal business hours. All yard and green waste must be delivered loose and not in plastic or paper bags. Residents may also purchase finished compost at EcoDrop Utica & EcoDrop Rome.
Oneida and Herkimer County residents have worked hard to make recycling a reality. The Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority urges everyone to compost. All of these efforts help reduce our reliance on landfills. A basic understanding of the composting process can produce a high-quality, usable product; all it takes are a few simple materials and a little time.
It is illegal to dump or burn household garbage, construction and demolition debris, tires, appliances, recyclables, or other solid waste on private or public property in any municipality in Oneida and Herkimer Counties. Burn barrels and open burning of solid waste is not permitted in Oneida and Herkimer Counties.
