The Authority has built a facility that can accept food waste for energy recovery! Food waste makes up 22% of what enters landfills as garbage and is the third-largest methane producer in the US. The Authority's Food2Energy program keeps food waste out of the landfill and recovers the material to generate electricity through a process called Anaerobic Digestion. The fee for disposal of food waste is lower than the fee for disposing of garbage, giving Food2Energy the potential to save your school money on waste disposal costs!
