It’s that time of year that the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority (Authority) is requesting assistance from industries, businesses and municipalities to complete its annual Private Recycling Survey.
Data collected from the annual Private Recycling Survey helps the Authority estimate the total waste reduction and recycling efforts for Oneida and Herkimer Counties, which helps determine the area’s recycling rate. From the 2022 Private Recycling Survey, the Authority was able to determine that the combined public and private recycling rate for 2022 was 52%, which is much higher than the national average of about 32%. This recycling rate proves the commitment that both Oneida and Herkimer County have for recycling and reuse.
Industries, businesses and municipalities interested in completing the survey can access the survey using this link: https://forms.gle/TY4tok4mgyLjmjWK9, visiting the Authority’s website at www.ohswa.org or by contacting Authority Recycling Coordinator, Eileen Brinck at 315-733-1224 x 1400 or eileenb@ohswa.org to request a survey form.
The survey asks for basic contact information and estimated tonnage figures for recyclable materials that did not go through the Oneida-Herkimer Recycling Center or the Authority’s facilities in 2023. This can include anything from printer cartridges being mailed out for recycling to scrap metal being picked up by a metal recycler. All information shared on the survey is kept confidential and will only be used to calculate the area’s 2023 recycling rate. The deadline for survey submissions is Friday, February 23, 2024. As an added incentive, all industries, businesses and municipalities that respond to the survey will be entered into a drawing to receive $100 towards breakfast from a restaurant of their choice!
For any questions on the 2023 Private Recycling Survey, please contact Authority Recycling Coordinator Eileen Brinck at 315-733-1224 x 1400 or eileenb@ohswa.org.
