The Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority (Authority) would like to remind residents in the City of Utica of proper set-out requirements for garbage and recyclables at the curb.
Garbage and recyclables are collected once per week in the City of Utica. Set-out time is between 5 PM and 11 PM on the night before your designated collection day. It is against local laws to put items out except on that night. (Non-compliance may result in a violation notice.) Please remove your recycling containers and trash cans from the City curb after collection.
Additionally, there is no limit to the set-out of recyclables at the curb. Recyclables can be placed in your orange recycling bin or a durable, lidded container of your choice, under 35 gallons and not more than 50 pounds. RecycleOne bin decals must be placed on the container of your choice and can be obtained from the Authority’s Main Office (1600 Genesee Street).
Please note that recyclables cannot be placed in plastic bags for collection. No plastic bags, string, trash or green waste is allowed in your recycling container. If you have plastic bags and other plastic film items (i.e. newspaper bags, bread bags, cereal bags, shrink wrap, etc.) that you would like to recycle, they must be delivered to local grocery stores for proper recycling.
