Free Drop-Off Recycling Event

The Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority (Authority) will be holding a Free Drop-Off Recycling Event on Saturday April 26th from 10:00am to 2:00pm. The event is sponsored by Senator Joseph A. Griffo and will take place at the Oneida-Herkimer Recycling Center located at 824 Sewage Plant Road in Utica. The event will include:

  • Confidential Paper Shredding by ConfiData: Residents can bring a limit of three boxes per vehicle of confidential documents for shredding. Documents will be shredded on-site and will be placed in a collection vehicle for recycling. Residents do not need to remove their name or personal information from the documents. No commercial shredding will be accepted.
  • Unused Medication and Pharmaceutical Collection by DEC: The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will be accepting unused and unwanted prescription or nonprescription medications for proper disposal. This includes prescription liquids, pills or powders, over-the-counter medications, vitamins and supplements and pet medications. Medications and prescriptions do not need to be in their original packaging.
  • Electronics Recycling: Electronics are accepted for recycling year-round at the Authority's EcoDrop facilities. For the duration of this event, there will be a convenient drive-through recycling option for electronics. Authority staff will be available to assist with unloading.
  • Cell Phones for Soldiers: Unused/unwanted cell phones will be collected for donation to Cell Phones for Soldiers to help military members and veterans connect with their families and loved ones.
  • Household Hazardous Waste: The Authority’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility is now open for the 2025 season. Items such as paints, chemicals and pesticides are accepted at this facility from April 1st to September 30th.
  • Year-Round EcoDrop Items: The Utica EcoDrop will also be available on April 26th’s Earth Day Event for the disposal of items that are accepted year-round. This includes items such as bulky rigid plastic, lightbulbs, and rechargeable batteries.
